Delon Beckett and Garrett Combs came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ready to resume the lives of promise they had left behind. For both veterans, within months of coming home, their relationships were crumbling, their children were frightened of their rages, they talked openly of harming themselves. Then, a new programme based in Malibu, California, called Save a Warrior (www.saveawarrior.org), gave them hope.  Founded and led by veteran Jake Clark for veterans suffering with post traumatic stress, the intensive five-day program includes equine therapy, trust exercises and training in Transcendental Meditation. The special report by Soledad O’Brien will be broadcast 12 August and repeated 17 August on CNN/US.

This is a good thing. I have never served in a war but I can only imagine the atrocities and guilt that gets turned inward upon oneself when a young man returns home to normal life. I’ve been doing TM for several years and I’m glad vets are getting a chance to do it. It’s the least we can do for them.
